Tsunami – what is it?
Contrary to popular belief, a tsunami is not one giant wave suddenly hitting the shore and sweeping away everything in its path. In fact, a tsunami is a series of sea gravity waves of very long length arising as a result of shifting of long seabed areas during strong underwater earthquakes or, occasionally, due to other reasons – volcanic eruptions, giant landslides, asteroid falls, underwater nuclear explosions.
